MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — A man was found dead on the side of the road on Thursday in Mount Airy.

The Surry County Sheriff's Office received a call around 12:24 p.m. regarding a man lying on the side of the road not breathing. When arriving on the scene, deputies found him with an apparent gunshot wound.

According to police, the incident was in the area of Mount Herman Church Road.

This incident is an open investigation.
