WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man is charged with murder after he turned himself in Wednesday to the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Center.

Winston-Salem police said 46-year-old Jerry Jonas Caudill was arrested and charged with murder Wednesday for the death of 33-year-old Zackary Voshall New in September.

On Oct. 23, the Winston-Salem Police Department received a report that New was missing. Officers began searching for him and evidence suggested that the disappearance was not voluntary.

As soon as the determination was made on Oct. 27, investigators looked into New's disappearance when it was revealed that he died on Sept. 17.

On Nov. 30, detectives took warrants out on Jerry Jonas Caudill for firearm by felon and concealed remains of a human body having reasonable grounds to believe that the death occurred from unnatural causes.

Caudill received no bond and will appear in court Thursday.

Throughout the investigation, investigators worked closely alongside the Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O'Neill to ensure successful prosecution.

This investigation is ongoing.
