Man charged with murder in fatal shooting on Eltha Drive in Winston-Salem

The suspect and victim knew each other, according to police.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — UPDATE: Jake Tywone Gainey IV was taken into custody and charged Friday with general murder in the death of Rashad Akeem Sims. 

Gainey is in the Forsyth County Detention Center being held without bond. His first appearance is set for Monday.

A man is dead after a shooting in Winston-Salem, police say. 

Just before 11:50 p.m. on Monday, officers responded to a shooting on Eltha Drive. They found 37-year-old Rashad Akeem Sims suffering from a gunshot wound. 

EMS tried to help him on scene and then he was taken to a nearby hospital where Sims died from his injuries. 

The suspect and victim were known to one another. Officers said there was no danger to the public.

This investigation is ongoing.
