WALKERTOWN, N.C. — A Walkertown man is charged with the murder of a child.

Investigators charged James Wilford Huff, 34, in the death of a child under the age of six years old. The child died Thursday as a result of injuries from alleged child abuse that occurred in July.

Huff faces one count of felony murder. He's in jail with no bond allowed.

The investigation began on July 21 when deputies went to a home on Cain Forest Drive.

When they arrived, they were told the child had pulled a pot of boiling water from the kitchen onto themselves.

Investigators determined the child had been placed in a tub of scalding-hot water, leading to severe injuries on the child's body.

Huff was initially charged with felony intentional child abuse inflicting serious injury.
