HIGH POINT, N.C. — High Point police charged a convicted felon with possession of a firearm by a felon for the third time since being out of prison last year.
He was previously convicted of robbery with a dangerous weapon and theft of a motor vehicle.
Around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, a detective stopped on the 1300 block of South Main Street. The driver, Nathaniel Griffin Jr., 30, didn't have a license, according to police.
The detective searched the car and found more than 37 grams of heroin, more than 2.7 grams of crack cocaine, marijuana, and more than $2,400 in cash. Detectives also searched Griffin's home and found a pistol.
Detectives charged Griffin with:
- trafficking heroin
- possession with intent to sell and distribute heroin
- possession of crack cocaine
- possession of drug paraphernalia
- no operator's license
- possession of firearm by felon
The High Point Police Department is the third agency to charge Griffin with possession of firearm by felon this year. He was charged with the crime in February and April by officers at two other law enforcement agencies.
Griffin served six years in prison for a 2015 case, where High Point officers charged him with robbery with dangerous weapon and larceny of a motor vehicle. He was convicted of the crimes in January 2017 and released from prison in February of 2023.
