LENOIR, N.C. — A Lenoir man is facing charges after he allegedly stole a Spectrum boom truck and drove off while a technician was working on overhead lines.

Frank Lynn Moody was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, injuring wires and fixtures of utility companies and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

Lenoir Police responded to a report of a stolen Spectrum service truck on Morganton Boulevard late Wednesday. When officers arrived, they were told a man got in the truck and took off while the utility worker was still in the bucket. Shortly after getting in the truck, the suspect knocked down an overhead line, breaking a utility pole, police said.

At some point, the Spectrum worker fell to the ground from the bucket, suffering injuries that aren't considered life-threatening. A large portion of Caldwell County experienced utility outages until crews were able to repair the damaged line.

The truck came to a stop and Moody was taken into custody without further incident. He's being held under a $100,000 bond, Lenoir police said. The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Caldwell County Crime Stoppers at 828-758-8300. Witnesses can also contact Lenoir police at 828-757-2100.

The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.
