HIGH POINT, N.C. (WFMY) – A High Point man has been charged in connection with the murder of a pregnant woman and her unborn child.
Police arrested Hykeem Marquis Simmons, 21, of High Point. Simmons is charged with First Degree Murder in the death of Anastasia Ray and her unborn child.
Investigators said on Tuesday, they found Simmons’ vehicle and inside was a rifle and a handgun. Police said Simmons has a criminal background and is a convicted felon with a known gang affiliation.
Simmons was originally charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Altering or Removing a Gun Serial Number.
He was later charged on Thursday in Ray’s murder. He’s also charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury on Corey Ray who was also shot.
Ray was killed after being shot in the head on Thissell Street and Commerce Avenue in High Point on Monday night. Police said she was seven to eight months pregnant. She was taken to the hospital where she and her unborn son died early Tuesday morning.
