GREENSBORO, N.C. — UPDATE: Brianna Laray Lee died from her injuries on Oct. 19. The case is being investigated by law enforcement as the city's 35th homicide of the year. The charges on Clapp have been updated to first-degree murder, according to law enforcement.

A man is charged with attempted first-degree murder after shooting a woman in the face while she was in bed overnight Tuesday, Greensboro police say.

Around 2:20 a.m., officers responded to Niagara Street about a shooting. They found Brianna Laray Lee, 28, in bed upstairs with injuries to her face that appeared to be from a gunshot. She was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Investigation led to the arrest of Cheavez Ajee Clapp, 27, on charges of attempted first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Clapp and Lee had a personal relationship. His motive for shooting her is unknown at this time.
