RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — A man has been arrested and charged after breaking into a family's home on Thanksgiving evening, according to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home invasion on Walt Brown Road in Bennett on Thursday, Nov. 28.
A 76-year-old caller said an unknown man had entered the back door of his home and was armed with a machete, according to police. The caller told police the man threatened him, his wife, and his granddaughter.
The family barricaded themselves in another room while the man was still inside the house. When deputies arrived at the scene, the man fled on foot down Walt Brown Road.
Deputies found the man and attempted to detain him when he began coming toward the deputies with a knife. The man was then taken into custody by deputies. Deputies said the man refused to give his name.
The man was taken to the Randolph County Detention Center and was held without bond as “John Doe.” The man was later identified as Kevin Joel Caballero, 21.
Caballero was charged with the following:
Felony first-degree burglary
Felony breaking and entering with intent to terrorize
Misdemeanor communicating threats
Misdemeanor second-degree trespassing
Misdemeanor resisting a public officer
