Sheriff: Man beats 3 former coworkers, threatens to shoot them

Deputies said they were called to an assault at an industrial plant in Stokesdale on Monday.

STOKESDALE, N.C. — Police arrested a man accused of assaulting three former coworkers at his former job in Stokesdale.

Rockingham County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to Ontex, an industrial plant, Monday morning.

Deputies said Julio Monquel-Sandria, a former employee of CK Steel, a company contracted to do work at Ontex, got onto the job site unknowingly and waited for three former coworkers to arrive.

The sheriff's office said the suspect pulled out a gun and then beat one of the workers with an extension cord. They said he then pointed the gun at that individual and made him beat the other two with the extension cord, threatening to shoot them if they didn't do so.

Monquel-Sandria ran away and that's when the workers called 911, according to the release.

Asheboro police later arrested him on three counts of false imprisonment, three counts of communicating threats, and three counts of assault.

He was placed in the Randolph County Jail under an $11,000 secured bond.

The three assault victims are expected to be okay, the sheriff's office said.

Editor's note: Investigators said the suspect's real name is JULIO MONQUEL-SANDRIA -- and the name JUAN ANTONIO POLANCO-FRIAS that was reported earlier is an alias.
