Man arrested for shooting at Winston-Salem police during assault call, police say

Winston-Salem police said a man shot in their direction while attempting to speak with him Thursday night.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man was arrested Thursday night for shooting at Winston-Salem police during an assault call, police say.

Around 7:45 p.m., officers were called to Old Plantation Circle regarding an assault involving a woman. The woman was already gone when officers arrived, according to police.

They tried to speak with Tyson William Campbell at the front door. During this attempt, Campbell fired a gun through the door in their direction.

Officers said no one was hurt.

Campbell eventually came out of the house and surrendered peacefully. He was taken into custody without any further incident. He is being held at the Forsyth County Detention Center with no bond allowed.

He is scheduled to appear in court Friday, police say.

This investigation is ongoing.
