WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Editor's Note: The video above is from a previous story about ending gun violence in Winston-Salem.
A man was arrested Tuesday after being accused of murdering a Winston-Salem man six years ago, according to police.
Winston-Salem police said Dontrell Warren was shot outside a home on E. 23rd Street back in 2017.
Police said he later died at a hospital.
Since 2017, members of the Winston-Salem Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division have continued to investigate the murder of Warren. As a result of the investigation, probable cause was developed to charge 25-year-old Daquan Ladaris Cates with murder.
A warrant for his arrest was obtained on March 16, 2023.
The Winston-Salem Police Department said Cates was arrested by the Creedmoor Police Department on March 21, 2023, in Granville County, North Carolina. Cates has been transferred to the Forsyth County Detention Center and is being held without bond.
His preliminary court date is set for March 22, 2023.
