On Sunday, officers responded to the 2900 block of Haig Street after a caller expressed concern about a person lying on a picnic table under a pavilion in the park at that location.

The caller said the person was not moving and said they heard what they thought were fireworks about an hour earlier. After closer inspection, the caller said the person was not breathing and had injuries that the caller described as gunshot wounds.

Officers identified the victim as Jakayla Marie Goode. EMS pronounced her dead at the scene.

This investigation is ongoing and WFMY will update this story as more information is reported.

Neighbors told WFMY that they were shocked and saddened to learn that Goode was murdered in their neighborhood. They heard what sounded like fireworks and then a short time later say, their street was flooded with police cars.
