RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — A man is facing new felony charges after originally being arrested for assault on July 19. He's now being accused of assaulting medical center staff at the Detention Center he was held in.
Deputies from the Randolph County Sheriff's Office arrested Jacob Austyn Hicks, 22, for allegedly assaulting two victims on Melody Ln., Randleman on July 19. The victims said Hicks walked out of the woods beside their residence, yelled at them and later attacked them. He then ran back into the woods.
The sheriff's office received a call about a suspicious man that matched Hicks' description. Deputies located Hicks in the parking lot of a Dollar General and arrested him.
He was taken to the Randolph County Detention Center and charged with felony assault inflicting serious injury, misdemeanor assault on a female and misdemeanor simple assault.
He was held on a $15,000 secured bond with his first appearance in court set for July 22.
On July 21, two days after arriving at the detention center, Hicks assaulted their medical staff, according to a release from the sheriff's office.
He was then charged with felony assault causing physical injury to Emergency Medical Personnel. He received a $250,000 secured bond.
Hicks' first appearance is now set for July 24.
