Man arrested for making fake bomb threat at the Toyota Plant in Liberty, deputies say

Deputies said Michael John Poirier was arrested at his home and charges are being sought against him.

LIBERTY, N.C. — Randolph Co. Sheriff's Office responded to the site of the Toyota Plant Monday due to a fake bomb threat incident. 

Following an investigation, charges were sought against Michael John Poirier for a felony false bomb threat. 

Poirier was arrested at his home and taken to the Randolph County Detention Center where he was served his warrant and issued a $30,000 bond. He is set to appear in court later Tuesday. 

Officials from the Toyota Plant released a statement following the incident: 

“On September 16 at approximately 2:20 p.m. ET, Toyota North Carolina was made aware of a potential security threat. Employees were immediately evacuated and the suspect has since been arrested. The safety and security of our team members is a top priority and we thank the local authorities for their quick response and support. While the threat turned out to be a hoax, we will continue cooperating with law enforcement on this matter.”

This is investigation is ongoing.
