Arrest made after online marketplace meetup turns into murder, Greensboro police say

Greensboro police said the man is charged with first-degree murder.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Police have arrested a man in connection to a shooting on Denny Road that left a woman dead in Greensboro.

Detectives with Greensboro Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, with assistance from the Winston-Salem Police Department, arrested Troy Marquise Gillard Wednesday and charged him with first-degree murder in the death of Kathryn Holmes.

Gillard is in custody without bond.

He is also charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm into occupied property, possession of a firearm by a felon, and fugitive from justice.

Police said Holmes had traveled to that location on Denny Road for a planned transaction arranged through an online marketplace site.

Officers said they are not seeking any other suspects in connection with this investigation.

Investigators said Gillard had a family connection to the house searched on Denny Road on May 24 hours after the shooting occurred. Police had received information about a person possibly entering the home; After further investigation, the home was found to be empty.
