LEXINGTON, N.C. — Police arrested a Lexington woman accused of not feeding her five dogs to the point of malnourishment.
Officers were called to Olympia Street on Sunday morning. Police said they found five dogs without food, water, or shelter.
Tammy Wilt, the dogs' owner, was charged on Tuesday with five counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty and a city ordinance violation for having more than three dogs on her property.
She was given a $2,000 bond and will appear in court in August.
Lexington police obtained a warrant for another woman tied to the case - Stephanie Mitchem. She faces five counts of animal abandonment.
Police took all five dogs to the Davidson County Animal Shelter. This investigation is ongoing.
