GREENSBORO, N.C. — A father and uncle is on a mission to get answers and justice for his loved ones' deaths.
On the 5th anniversary of Kendrick Gilbert Jr. and Christopher Parson’s murders Kendrick Gilbert Sr. returns to Morehead Apartments in Greensboro where they were killed to hand out flyers to keep the search for answers alive.
"I’ve passed out about 70 flyers. A lot of people remember it, and they’re like that’s so tragic," Gilbert said. " Some didn’t know this happened in their own community. A lot of them were open to taking a flyer and seeing what I had to say. That was a plus."
Greensboro Police say the two 24-year-old cousins were killed during a home invasion in 2019.
Parson’s one-month-old baby and fiancé were also shot but pulled through.
Gilbert Sr. said police have not found strong enough leads to arrest anyone for the two men's murders.
But he’s not giving up and said he’ll spend every Labor Day being a voice for his son and nephew until justice is served.
"This holiday is very different for me. It's not something I enjoy, doing the cookouts and being around family and stuff like that is something I’d never look at the same again," Gilbert said. "I've got to go out here and try to find out who murdered my son and nephew."
Two lives were taken too soon, and two children are left without fathers.
"They were both doing good things in life they were both recent fathers," Gilbert said. "They were doing everything to be good young men."
Gilbert Sr. said he plans to hand out flyers throughout September.
Right now Crime Stoppers is offering a five thousand dollar reward a piece for information that leads to an arrest.
