FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — A juvenile is in custody after being charged with communicating threats against Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, according to deputies.
The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said they received multiple reports of threats of mass violence against two Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools between Spring 2023 and January 2024.
During the investigation, the School Resource Division and Investigative Services Division identified the juvenile as the suspect.
The Forsyth County District Attorney's Office approved the following charges Thursday:
- Six counts of felony Communicating a Threat of Mass Violence on Educational Property
- One count of felony Extortion
- Thirteen counts of misdemeanor Cyber Bullying
The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office with Forsyth County Juvenile Justice obtained a secure custody order for the juvenile.
The juvenile was taken into custody Friday.
Deputies said there is no threat to Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools or the public at this time.
Deputies said the names of the schools involved will not be released.
