FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — Two former detention officers, one contract worker, and one inmate were arrested after a four-month investigation, Forsyth County law enforcement officials said.
The crimes law enforcement officials said involved trafficking stolen identity and felony conspiracy, and 18 inmates' identities were compromised.
“It’s a bad day when you have to arrest your own,” Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough said during the press conference Wednesday.
Law enforcement officials said Donetta Jones, an Aramark contract worker working in the food services department, is charged with 3 felony counts of conspiracy, 1 count of trafficking stolen identity, and 1 count of providing contraband to inmates.
Jones appeared before a magistrate. Her bond is set at $30,000.
Alfred Scott Jr., 28, former detention officer, is charged with:
- 3 felony counts of conspiracy
- 1 count of trafficking stolen identity
- 1 count of access to gov computer defraud
- 1 count of providing phone or electronic communication to inmate
Scott appeared before a magistrate and his bond was set at $35,000. He worked as a detention officer for two and a half years.
Laura Davis, 43, former detention officer, is charged with:
- 3 felony counts of providing phone or electronic to inmate
- 1 count of trafficking stolen identity
- 1 of count conspiracy
Davis's bond is set at $35,000. Davis worked as a detention officer for around 16 months.
Christopher McCray, an inmate, is charged with 4 counts of possession of a phone by an inmate and three felony counts of conspiracy.
All four are scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
“We try every day to maintain the trust of the people. That’s why we called the press conference,” Sheriff Kimbrough said.
The Sheriff continues, "it's frustrating for several reasons. It's frustrating that you come into this room every week and you talk to the men and women. You thank them for their service, you thank of them for staying with you during difficult times. It's not the stab in the back, it's when you look around and see who's holding the knife."
Those arrested are being shipped to different detention centers across the state.
More arrests are expected in the future, according to law enforcement.
