Inmate 'mistakenly released' in High Point; 2nd recent incident in Guilford County

HIGH POINT, N.C. — An inmate was mistakenly released from the High Point jail on Thursday but is already back in custody, according to a police report.

According to the report, Jessie Dale Steed, 38, was "mistakenly released" from jail despite having an active sentence. An OFA (Order For Arrest) was quickly issued and Steed was arrested without incident the same day, according to the HPD.

Steed was originally charged with felony assault inflicting serious injury. He is back at the High Point jail and is being held without bond.

This incident occurred just days after a similar mistaken release happened at the Greensboro jail. On Monday, 32-year-old Carlos Gomez used the identity of another inmate to deceive corrections officers into getting out of jail, according to Sheriff Danny Rogers.

Rogers was initially jailed for misdemeanor driving while impaired, failure to appear for felony common law robbery and misdemeanor assault on a female.
