High Point police searching for arsonist who caused more than $70K in damages

The High Point Police Department says they are investigating a suspect who set a building on fire twice within six days.

HIGH POINT, N.C. — High Point investigators are searching for a suspect who is accused of setting the same building on fire twice within a week. 

Police said it happened on the 2000 block of West English Road on April 7th around 4:45 a.m., then again on April 13 around 3 a.m.

During the suspect's first attempt, investigators say they lit a gas can in a crawl space, causing $1,000 in damage.

Detectives said during the second attempt, a suspect broke a window, poured an accelerant, and threw a lit torch into the building, causing $70,000 in damages.

Officers say no one was injured during either fire. 

This is being treated as an arson investigation.
