WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem police responded to an armed robbery and carjacking at the intersection of Bethabara Park Blvd and Bethabara Road Wednesday.

The incident happened around 5:30 p.m.

Someone called 911 saying they heard someone screaming for help coming from a black car by a man wearing a ski mask. Officers contacted 30-year-old Karim Francis, who reported being robbed at gunpoint.

Investigation revealed that Francis was at a home on Ambercrest Drive visiting a friend when a man with a gun entered the apartment and robbed him of his money.

The suspect then forced Francis to get inside the trunk of his rental car and proceeded to drive him to an unknown location.

As Francis remained captive inside the trunk. he managed to use the emergency trunk release to free himself.

The suspect left the area in Francis' car. Investigators determined this was not a random act and Francis was targeted.

This investigation is ongoing.
