Deputies responded to Oak Ridge home four times in last month, according to sheriff's office

On Monday, GCSO said they responded to a 911 call at the Skippers Trace home, and a deputy ended up shot.

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — The Guilford County Sheriff's Office held a press conference Wednesday after an Oak Ridge homeowner was charged with assaulting a detective.

The shooting happened just after 1:20 a.m. Monday at a home on Skippers Trace in Oak Ridge. According to a release, deputies were responding to an incident at the location.

During the incident, the sheriff's office said 29-year-old GCSO Master Corporal Dakota Brim was shot and taken to a nearby hospital. The deputy was released after treatment.

During the press conference, Guilford County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Investigative Unit Captain M. Holder said the suspect Andrew Caetto, 54, was in the driveway when officers arrived, they said he was argumentative and violent.

The Guilford County Sheriff's Office said the other deputy involved in the incident was not injured.

The case is under internal investigation.

Deputies said Caetto made four calls to law enforcement about dirt bikes riding in yards in the Skippers Trace neighborhood.

Caetto was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury. Arrest warrants said Caetto assaulted a detective with an assault rifle.

Caetto was taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies said he is also facing the following charges:

  • Three counts of misdemeanor assault on a law enforcement officer
  • One count of felony assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm

Caetto appeared in court Tuesday.

The court found him to be a danger to the community and signed off on a request to have him committed to Central Regional Hospital.

Caetto's next court date was set for August 1.
