GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — The Guilford County Sheriff's Office (GCSO) held a press conference at 3:30 p.m. on Friday regarding the investigation of Gwen Collins who went missing in August.
Collins, 62, disappeared from her home in Gibsonville on Aug. 9. Deputies said in August they conducted searches throughout Guilford County, Alamance County, and Durham County for Collins.
Sheriff Danny Rogers said in the press conference that her remains were found in Chatham County near Chicken Bridge Road on Sept. 21.
It is believed that Collins was swept away by flood waters caused by Tropical Storm Debby, according to the GCSO.
The sheriff clarified that this human remains discovery is separate from the skeletal remains discovered in a wooded area near Alamance Church Road. More information on that case is expected to come soon.
