Greensboro man accused of arranging to meet with minor for 'lewd purposes,' police say

Harlan Frye previously worked as the Human Resources Director for the North Carolina Department of Revenue.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A Greensboro man faces charges after police in California arrested him for allegedly arranging to meet with a minor for lewd purposes.

The Long Beach Police Department arrested 62-year-old Harlan Frye on June 9, 2024.

In a statement, LBPD said its preliminary investigation shows Frye arranged to meet with a minor that a cyber vigilante posed as online.

Harlan Frye has been arraigned and released on bond.

Frye previously worked as the Human Resources Director for the North Carolina Department of Revenue.

We reached out to the NC Department of Revenue for comment.

The Public Affairs Director responded, saying Harlan Frye is no longer employed with the state’s Department of Revenue.

We learned he worked with the department from April 4, 2022, to June 10, 2024.

The NCDOR would not comment on the arrest or pending charges.

On June 9, 2024, at approximately 7:28 p.m., LBPD responded to the 200 block of Pine Avenue regarding a report of a man who had arranged to meet a minor for lewd purposes. The preliminary investigation indicates suspect Frye arranged a meeting with a minor, being portrayed by a cyber vigilante, for lewd purposes. The cyber vigilante called LBPD. Officers arrested the suspect and transported him to Long Beach City Jail where he was booked for arranging to meet a minor for lewd behavior. Harlan Frye, a 62-year-old resident of Greensboro, North Carolina, was arrested and booked for arranging to meet a minor for lewd behavior. The case was presented to the District Attorney’s Office; for further, please contact their office. The investigation is ongoing. “
