WENTWORTH, N.C. — According to the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office, two people — including a Greensboro man — were arrested Sunday after leading a high-speed chase into Guilford County.

It also said the suspect vehicle involved in the chase was registered to a man found dead in High Point.

The Sheriff's Office said that one of their deputies notices a vehicle with no tail lights on traveling north on US 158 East near the Yanceyville Volunteer Fire Department around 2:41 a.m. on Sunday morning. When the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled at a high rate of speed.

The chase led the deputy onto US 29 before the suspect exited on Barnes Street and then stopped near Diesel Drive in Reidsville. As the deputy exited his vehicle to approach the suspect vehicle's driver, the suspect vehicle fled once again.

After this, the suspect vehicle traveled back on US 29 North before taking the exit at NC 14 and flipping around to travel back on US 29 South toward Greensboro. At this point, the Guilford County Sheriff's Office and Greensboro Police Department were notified of the chase.

Eventually, the suspect vehicle came to a stop after colliding with rocks in a median while "attempting to cross into the opposite lane of Interstate 840." The driver fled the scene on foot, but he was chased down by a Rockingham County deputy and apprehended.

A female passenger and minor child were found in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The Sheriff's Office said the child was uninjured and has been turned over to a family member.

According to the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office, the suspect vehicle — a 2017 Honda Ridgeline — was registered to a man in High Point. After receiving word from Rockingham County, High Point Police officers tried to contact the man but found him dead at his home.

High Point Police is investigating the death.

Daniel Ryan Marinelli-Vasquez, 38, of Greensboro, was the driver of the suspect vehicle. He was arrested and charged with felony flee to elude, misdemeanor child abuse and assault on a government official. He is currently at the Rockingham County Detention Facility under $1 million bond.

The female passenger, Alexandria Hope Hughes, 34, of McLeansville, was arrested on outstanding warrants and was also charged with misdemeanor child abuse. She received a $5,000 secured bond.
