BEAUFORT, N.C. — Police said a man wanted for statutory rape and indecent liberties with a minor in Greensboro died in Carteret County.

On Thursday, a warrant was issued for Corey Reynolds of Greensboro.

WNCT reports that the Carteret County Sheriff's Office teamed up with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations (NCSBI) and Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) to arrest Reynolds.

The two entities found that Reynolds had been staying with family in Carteret County.

In the morning, VCAT went to the home where Reynolds was staying to speak with him. Investigators said he refused to come outside. After several hours of no word from Reynolds, the NCSBI Special Response Team was called for help.

Authorities said when they went inside the home, they found Reynolds had shot himself. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
