ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — A Greensboro man is charged with second-degree murder and murder of an unborn child in Rockingham County, deputies say.

In March 2023, Rockingham County deputies responded to a suspected overdose in Stokesdale. When they arrived, they found Jessica Nicole Loman, 31, dead.

Loman was 8 months pregnant at the time of her death.

In mid-December 2023, investigators received the official cause of death for Loman from the NC Medical Examiner's Office, which has been determined to be Acute Fentanyl and Methamphetamine Toxicity.

Detectives charged Matthew Isaac Pearman, 38, with second-degree murder and murder of an unborn child.

"This is a tragic situation," Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page said. "[Jessica] Loman had her whole life ahead of her, and her unborn child didn't even get a chance at life."

Pearman is believed to have given Loman, who was his girlfriend at the time, the drugs that killed her and her unborn child.

He was placed in the Rockingham County Detention Facility under no bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 9.
