Person found shot to death in car on I-40 in Greensboro, police say

Police said the investigation remains ongoing and it is the 41st homicide of 2024.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Greensboro Police Department issued a warning to drivers Monday morning to avoid a section of I-40 West.

Around 3:30 a.m. on Monday, police responded to I-40 West at Highway 68 regarding a report of a person injured in a vehicle on the shoulder of the road.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the only person in the vehicle dead from trauma with a gunshot wound.

Police said the individual has not been identified.

All westbound lanes of I-40 West were rerouted to the Regional Road exit due to a ‘police investigation.’

The closure was between Exit 210 (NC 68) and Exit 208 (Sandy Ridge Road), according to the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

All lanes are now open, according to the Greensboro Police Department.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing and it is the 41st homicide of the year.
