GREENSBORO, N.C. — A bullet hole piercing a car, broken windows, and shattered glass were all visible outside a Greensboro business on Battleground Avenue Monday.
Carrie Foley was stopped at a red light on the road with her son and saw it all.
"I'm like, that's gunshots, and I started looking around and I saw a man with a gun. He was not running or aiming. It was by his side," Foley said.
All this happened in broad daylight at Batteries Plus.
"It's a busy morning. Everyone's driving to school, on the bus, and getting to work," Foley said.
Foley said the suspect was only 50 feet from them.
"I was like, oh my gosh, bullets are flying through the air near me and I have no idea who is shooting, if there's another person, so I told my son to duck," Foley said. "We put our head below the level. I was like, I've got to call 911. So I grabbed my phone."
Greensboro Police responded to a robbery call around 8 a.m.
A Batteries Plus employee was opening the store when police said the suspect approached them with a gun, stealing about $900.
Foley said she heard about three shots go off.
"It was wild. In this very Wonderbread part of town," Foley said. "It rattles you."
Foley said she drives up Battleground Avenue five days a week to take her son to school and always feels safe.
But now she's on high alert.
"I noticed today, even for me, I drove a couple of other times, and every time I was at a red light, my body was just like I'm in danger," Foley.
She said she'll use a different route to take her son to school while they process what they saw.
Police are still looking for the suspect.
It's not clear whether anyone was hurt during the incident.
