In our endeavor to remain vigilant and proactive, our K-9 officers will continue to conduct random searches throughout the school district, even as we approach the end of the school year.” -Chief Deputy Henry Gray Jr.

The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System has released the following statement to Parents and Guardians after the incident:

Hello, Glenn High School families. This is Scott Munsie, principal at Glenn High School. Earlier today, during a routine, random campus search using the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Weapons Detection K9, the dog did alert on a car in our parking lot. Officers made entry into the car and did locate a handgun inside the car. The weapon was never seen outside the car, was never displayed on campus, and no threats were ever made to any student or staff member. The student who owned the vehicle was identified and located.  The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is seeking charges against the student for having a weapon on school property and the student will be disciplined according to the District’s Code of Character, Conduct, and Support. In the coming days, students will likely see extra security measures around campus. Please know we take these matters seriously and always appreciate students, parents, and staff letting us know about anything that concerns them. Safety is our number one priority.  If you have any questions, please let me know.

Additional safety measures will be implemented at Glenn High School throughout the week.
