GREENSBORO. N.C.-- A former South Carolina law enforcement officer is a North Carolina jail facing sex crime charges involving a juvenile he met via social media.
Acting on a warrant out of Hanahan, SC, the U.S. Marshal's offiice out of Greensboro, arrested 29-year-old Michael Paul Norton in Thomasville Wednesday. The arrest warrant states Norton, knowingly contacted and met a 14 year old using a cell phone app known as GRINDR. He has been charged with Sex, Criminal Sexual Conduct with Minor.
Norton was previously employed as a law enforcement officer in Charleston County.
The arrest of Norton happened after officers received information that he was traveling by tractor-trailer from Virginia to North Carolina. The information included a warning that Norton was to be considered armed and dangerous. Officers waited at Norton's next anticipated stop, 822 Clarksbury Church Rd, in Thomasville and took him into custody. Officers surrounded the area and positively identified Norton driving the tractor trailer onto the property.
Once Norton delivered the merchandise and exited the tractor he was taken into custody without incident. Norton was transported to the Guilford County Detention Center in High Point where he is currently being held on a $700,000.00 bond.
