Former pastor to register as sex offender after pleading guilty to inappropriate incidents at Triad farmers market

Guilford County deputies said 71-year-old Ivan Hugh-McDonald Peden is facing multiple charges including Felony Indecent Liberties with a Child.

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — A former pastor has pleaded guilty to sex crimes at the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market in June and July 2023. 

Ivan Hugh-McDonald Peden, 71, entered a guilty plea for indecent exposure and sexual battery. He will also be required to register as a sex offender, according to the North Carolina District Attorney.

Peden will receive 18 months’ probation with 45 days suspended for the indecent exposure charge and 18 months probation with 75 days suspended for the sexual battery charge, according to the NC DA's office.

Peden has to stay away from the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market, the DA said.

Peden was a United Methodist clergy, and he retired from active ministry with the Western North Carolina Conference (WNCC) in 2020.
