GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — A former detention officer is facing charges Friday after she gave a phone to an inmate in Guilford County.
Guilford County Sheriff's Office Detention Services Officer, Beverly Annette Chavis, 50, is accused of providing a cell phone to Waleed Ahmad Faydi, 25, at the High Point Detention Center between June 17 and June 20, according to Guilford County Sheriff's Office.
Guilford County Sheriff Danny Rogers immediately started a criminal and internal administrative investigation.
Shortly after the investigation began Chavis resigned from the Guilford County Sheriff's Office.
Former DSO Chavis was criminally charged with providing a cell phone/electronic device to an inmate Friday.
Deputies said this a felony.
Chavis was taken before a magistrate in High Point and released on a written promise to appear.
