RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — A father is facing a charge after a toddler was injured in an accidental shooting in Randolph County.

The Randolph County Sheriff's Office said they responded to an accidental shooting on Beckerdite Road in Sophia on October 13.

Deputies said when they arrived Guil-Rand Fire was already on the scene administering aid.

Investigators said two adults and two children had been walking on the property they had recently purchased and then entered into a truck.

They had driven around 10 yards before hearing a loud bang, the two-year-old deputies said had accidentally pulled the trigger of a gun that was stored in the truck.

Everyone in the car was sitting in the front seat at the time of the incident.

Chase William Lee, the father, performed first-aid and drove from the back of their property to the roadway in order for fire, EMS, and law enforcement to locate them more easily.

EMS took the 2-year-old to a hospital for treatment where it was determined that the wound was superficial to the leg.

After an investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, the details of the case were presented to the magistrate, who found probable cause to issue a criminal summons against Lee for misdemeanor give weapon to minor due to storing/leaving a firearm in the condition that it could be accessed and discharged by a minor.

His court date is scheduled for November 20.
