BOONE, N.C. -- Boone Police are warning people and businesses about fake $100 bills that may be circulating around the area.
Police say they arrested Charles Wayne Bolick, 55, for trying to use a counterfeit $100 bill at Benchmark Provisions in downtown Boone.
Investigators say Bolick's arrest coincides with the department seeing an increase of fake $100 bills. The bills that have been collected have Chinese writing on the front and back. They also have lines across one of the corners, both front and back.
Police say 22 fake bills have been found in Boone over the past two weeks. Twenty of the bills have been turned over to the police department after a concerned citizen found them abandoned. The other two bills were passed at local businesses.
Police say if you come across what appears to be a fake bill, contact your local law enforcement agency immediately.
Bolick was charged with felony possession of counterfeit currency and felony attempting to obtain property by false pretense.
