Former Eden teacher charged with indecent liberties with student

EDEN, N.C. — UPDATE: Rockingham County Schools said Jesse Michael Morris, 24, is no longer an employee of the school system.

Rockingham County Schools issued a statement following the arrest of a teacher facing indecent liberties charges. In the statement, the district said 24-year-old Jesse Michael Morris is on administrative leave and that it's taking the situation seriously.

RCS sent this statement after Morris' arrest 

"Upon learning of the allegations and consistent with State law, RCS took immediate and appropriate action by placing Mr. Morris on administrative leave. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement in their ongoing investigation to ensure our schools remain a safe environment for all students and staff. The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority. RCS remains committed to upholding the highest standards of conduct and will continue to work diligently to maintain a safe and secure environment within our schools. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, we are unable to provide further details at this time. We appreciate your understanding and support as we navigate this difficult situation."

A teacher is facing indecent liberties charges in Eden.

Eden police said they received a report Wednesday alleging that there was misconduct involving the Theatre of the Arts teacher at Morehead High School and at least one student.  

After an investigation and consulting with the Rockingham County District Attorney’s Office, officers secured warrants for Morris for the following:

  • 1 Count of Indecent Liberties with a Child (Felony)
  • 1 Count of Taking Indecent Liberties with a Student by a Teacher (Felony)

Morris was taken to the Rockingham County Magistrates Office where he received a $75,000 secured bond.

He is set to appear in Rockingham County District Court on August 29.

The investigation is ongoing.
