FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. — The driver that killed three people, including two teenagers, in a crash involving a stolen car has been identified by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Friday.
Deputies identified 29-year-old Joseph Brandon Smith as the driver in the stolen car that killed two teenagers on US-74.
Deputies responded to a call for service of a vehicle larceny in progress on Monday. A responding deputy found the car, a 2004 silver Mercury Grand Marquis, and conducted a traffic stop.
Smith refused to stop, ultimately driving the wrong way on US-74 westbound and crashing into an oncoming car.
Smith also died in the crash.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) investigated the crash and released the names of the two teenage victims earlier this week.
