Deputies locate 11 starved dogs at Mocksville man's home. He's been charged with animal cruelty

One dog needed to be transported to a local veterinarian for immediate treatment.

MOCKSVILLE, N.C. — A Mocksville man has been arrested for the alleged mistreatment of several dogs.

Nathan Lee Tanner, 33, had warrants issued for his arrest after the Davie County Sheriff's Office Animal Services executed a search warrant on his home. While doing so, they found "11 emaciated Chihuahua type dogs" on the premises.

One dog was transferred to a local veterinarian for immediate treatment, while the other 10 were taken to the Davie County Animal Shelter.

Tanner has been charged with one felony county of cruelty to animals along with 10 misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals. He was given no bond and will appear in court for the first time on Sept. 26.

The Davie County Sheriff's Office asks that people who would like to help the animals send either canned dog food or cash donations to the Davie County Animal Shelter in Mocksville.
