MEBANE, N.C. — A man is dead after a home invasion around in Mebane.
It was early in the morning on Sunday, March 3 when three men entered the home of Jerry (Buck) Driggers and demanded money.
Driggers shot one of the suspects with a shotgun and someone else returned fire. Afterward, all three suspects left the scene.
The 911 calls reveal the terror the family felt after the tragic event.
"Somebody came in and, and, and they robbed us," said a woman to the 911 operator.
"I need an ambulance they shot my brother! Where are you hit, Buck? In the belly," she said.
"Do you know who they were?" asked the operator.
"No, I don’t!" she replied.
Driggers, unfortunately, died in the hospital from his injuries.
The Orange County Sheriff's Office arrested and charged Clarence Hayes, 58, with first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, first-degree kidnapping, felony conspiracy, and injury to real property
Hayes is still in the hospital, and the two other suspects are on the run and have not been identified.
