Documents show High Point 911 operator set husband's clothing and personal items on fire

WFMY News 2 obtained arrest warrants and bond documents for Theresa Varner. Varner was the High Point 911 operator who allegedly set her family's home on fire.

DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — Court documents show new details about a Thomasville house fire allegedly started by a High Point 911 operator and wife of a High Point police officer.

High Point 911 operator, Theresa Varner has been charged with several counts, including second-degree arson, animal cruelty, and burning personal property.

The arrest warrants and bond documents obtained by WFMY News 2 reveal the following new details:

Firstly, the arrest warrant alleges Varner set "all clothing and personal items" on fire with the intent to "injure or prejudice Jason Cano." Officials have said Cano is a High Point police officer and Varner's husband.

Second, the bond paperwork shows Cano got his wife out of jail by posting collateral.

Finally, documents show Varner allegedly burned the house owned by Clifton Property Management. WFMY News 2 attempted to call the property management company but hasn't heard back yet.

911 calls show the desperate moments when neighbors were trying to get help.

"It started in the back room, in the back far left room as you're facing the house. I'm assuming because whenever I took my dogs out, I heard cracking and popping, and I saw something flaming."

Officials said the family was not inside when the fire happened. However, two family pets were. A dog and a cat died in the fire. Additionally, neighboring homes were damaged by the flames.

Davidson County courthouse officials said Varner's second appearance is set for July 26th.
