WFMY News 2 has obtained court documents showing more details about all three suspects involved in the shooting death of Greensboro police Sgt. Philip Dale Nix. Police said Nix was off-duty when he was shot and killed at the Sheetz gas station in Colfax while trying to stop a crime in progress.
Jamere Foster, James Morrison, and Z'quriah Blackwell are all being charged with separate offenses.
Jamere Foster
Jamere Foster was charged with first-degree murder, misdemeanor larceny, and misdemeanor conspiracy. His warrant was served on Sunday, December 31 at 6 a.m.
According to documents, Foster is 18 years old and lives in Winston-Salem.
Foster is expected to have his first appearance in district court on Tuesday at the Guilford County courthouse.
Foster is currently being held without bond.
According to documents, at the time of the arrest, Foster was cooperative, emotional, and distraught. The arresting officer reported that he has no ties to the Greensboro community and additional charges may be coming.
As for Foster's misdemeanor larceny charge, the arrest warrant says he did steal, take, and carry away several Modelo beer cases from the Sheetz gas station. It also says the property he stole had a value of $83.45.
As for the misdemeanor conspiracy charge, the arrest warrant says Foster worked with John Morrison Jr. to steal 10 beer cases from Sheetz valued at a total of $232.90.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) was involved in the case and within the court documents was an SBI disposition report.
John Morrison
John Morrison has been charged with misdemeanor larceny, misdemeanor conspiracy, and accessory after the fact.
Morrison is 28 years old and lives in Winston-Salem.
For Morrison's misdemeanor larceny charge, court documents say Morrison did steal, take, and carry away Modelo beer cases from Sheetz gas station with a total value of $83.45.
For his misdemeanor conspiracy charge, warrants say Morrison conspired with Jamere Foster and Z'quriah Blackwell to commit the crime at Sheetz.
The warrants say Morrison helped Jamere Foster steal beer from Sheetz and purchase narcotics. They say after the shooting, Morrison also helped Foster to escape. Warrants also say Morrison told Foster to take the registration plate off the car because "they are hot now."
Z'quriah Blackwell
Z'quriah Blackwell was charged with accessory after the fact.
Blackwell is an 18-year-old and lives in Winston-Salem.
For Blackwell's charge, the warrants say Blackwell was an accessory to the murder that Foster allegedly committed.
They say Blackwell helped Foster escape after the shooting took place. In the warrant's documents, it says Blackwell told Foster, "They needed to get out of there because he just killed a cop."
The warrants say Blackwell accompanied Foster to sell stolen beer and purchase narcotics. It also says Blackwell talked to Foster about disposing the firearm and registration plate.
The three suspects left the scene after the shooting.
A Blue Alert was issued as law enforcement officers searched for them.
Winston-Salem police confirmed they were found in Winston-Salem. WSPD said they worked collaboratively with the Greensboro Police Department to make the arrests.
