GREENWOOD, S.C. — Convicted killer Susan Smith is facing a charge after speaking with a documentary filmmaker.
According to CBS affiliate WSPA, Smith was convicted Oct. 3, of an internal disciplinary charge after speaking with a filmmaker while in prison by the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
This comes weeks before Smith's parole hearing.
In Oct. 1994, Smith was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of her children.
Officials said Smith's charge involved phone calls with the filmmaker about her crimes.
Smith also agreed to give the filmmaker contact information of family, friends, victims, and her ex-husband.
The documentary filmmaker deposited money into Smith's account, according to officials.
The SC Department of Corrections said since inmates are not allowed to do interviews in person or on the telephone while in custody, Smith violated their policy.
Smith lost tablet, telephone, and canteen privileges for 90 days. This went into effect Oct. 4.
The SC Department of Corrections also confirmed on Aug. 26, Smith was charged with communicating with a victim and/or witness.
Officials said Smith remains eligible for parole on Nov. 4.
