Child injured in shooting at Burlington apartment complex

BURLINGTON, N.C. — A child is injured after a shooting in Burlington.

Burlington police said they responded emergency traffic to the public vehicular area of Beaumont Apartments Thursday shortly before 8 p.m. after receiving multiple calls from residents about a disturbance that led to a single gunshot being fired.

When officers arrived, they received reports that a child had been shot.

First responders found a 7-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to his upper body.

The boy was air-lifted to a nearby trauma center and is in stable condition.    

Police said multiple witnesses at the scene stated the child was not involved in the disturbance that ended with the shooting.

The investigation is ongoing.
