HIGH POINT, N.C. — A 16-year-old driver smashed a truck into the side of a house Friday night in High Point, according to the High Point Fire Department.
Photos show the end of the vehicle stuck inside the back side of the home—tires, and parts of the car littering the yard.
Firefighters said they went out to a structure collapse involving a vehicle around 10 p.m. on West English Rd. Friday night.
WFMY News 2 visited the neighborhood and met one former resident who said the crash caused chaos.
"It was just a horrific sound, we first thought there were two cars involved," Andrea Buskirk said.
She and a few other residents on West English Rd. said drivers frequently speed in the area.
"Anything would be great to slow down traffic," Buskirk said.
The fire department posted to social media they found "a vehicle versus a house" when they got to the scene.
According to High Point Police, the teen was speeding when they drove off the road, hit parked cars and flew into the home.
Luckily, no one was inside the home but the teen received minor injuries, police said.
Buskirk said she saw the teen walking away from the crash with just a small scratch on his hand.
"He was walking around. I'm very grateful that he was alive," she said.
Buskirk said this frightening incident should be a wake-up call for city leaders to make safety improvements because the outcome could've been much worse.
Police said the teen was charged with failure to maintain lane and reckless driving.
The fire department said the structure was determined to be sound and the technical rescue team's response was canceled. However, the home has been condemned.
