Woman dies after being hit by car in Burlington, driver faces felony charges

Police say the driver fled the scene after striking the woman.

BURLINGTON, N.C. — The Burlington Police Department said a woman was fatally hit by a car on S. Church St. and Glendale Ave on the morning of July 23. The car left the scene.

When Alamance County EMS and Burlington Fire arrived on the scene, they pronounced the woman dead.

Officers identified the victim as 36-year-old Alicia Cearley.

Officers said the driver of the car, Irma Hernandez of Burlington, was arrested and charged with driving without a license, felony hit and run causing death, and exceeding a safe speed. 

She was given a written promise to appear and was released.
