WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A person was arrested in New Jersey in connection to a murder that happened back in September in Winston-Salem, police said.
Twenty-six-year-old Gevontae Daeron Morrison died after shooting on the 1100 block of Burke Village Lane around 1 a.m. on Sept. 10.
After an investigation, police said Morrison was in an argument outside of an apartment complex with unknown individuals. As he was walking back to his car, after the argument, a suspect shot him multiple times before leaving the area.
Detectives believe the suspect and victim knew each other.
Three days later, investigators said they had a felony warrant for arrest on Tywon Orlando Walker, who was 32 years old at the time of the shooting.
After working with the United States Marshal's Task Force, investigators found Walker on Dec. 14 in Union County, New Jersey. On Dec. 18, Winston-Salem police obtained a warrant for arrest and charged Walker with felony murder.
Police said Walker will remain in New Jersey until extradition.
