RALEIGH, N.C. — Hailey Elwood was sitting in her apartment when her sister burst into her room. Her car had been stolen.

Her boyfriend eventually found her car on a nearby street, but her laptop and wallet had been stolen. One thing most important to her was also taken -- her brother's ashes.

“It was held together the majority of the morning once I realized my car was gone, but once I realized that that was gone, every ounce of self-control and every ounce of controlling my emotions was gone,” Elwood told CBS affiliate WCNT 9.

She says the ashes were inside of a necklace that hung on her rearview mirror.

“That is the last physical thing that I have [of him], that I can feel, cause it’s always there with me," she said.

Elwood says she doesn't care about the material items that were taken from the car, her brother's remains are her biggest concern. He passed away only two years ago.

According to Raleigh police, more than $2,000 worth of items were stolen from her car, but her brother's ashes are priceless. Police are still investigating the robbery.

You can find Elwood's GoFundMe here.
