CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Two suspects kidnapped a Brink's armored truck driver and stole around $275,000 in northeast Charlotte on Wednesday, according to a police report.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to a reported armed robbery at the Belgate shopping center on Ikea Boulevard shortly after 4 p.m. on July 31. When officers arrived, they were told two people stole a Brink's worker's gun and held him against his will while they stole approximately $277,000 in cash from bags in the back of the truck. The thieves also took the victim's 9 mm pistol, the report states.
CMPD hasn't released any suspect information at this time or announced any arrests. WCNC Charlotte asked Brink's for a statement on the incident. So far, the company hasn't answered the request.
This isn't the first time a Brink's truck was targeted in Charlotte this year. A Brink's truck was robbed outside a QuikTrip on North Tryon Street in April.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
